ABOUT ./DEV_CLIMB.
./Dev_Climb (pronounced: “dot slash dev climb”) is a unique networking event for technology and
engineering
sectors, hosted at Urban
Climb, Adelaide’s leading bouldering gym. The dot-slash in the title is a programming reference,
where
once a program’s files are compiled, an executable file is created, and is then run with the dot-slash,
hence
./Dev_Climb - “Dev_Climb runs ./Dev_Climb.” The root of this name comes from the event being initially
aimed
towards software developers and programmers, which has evolved to include business, technology and
engineering
sectors due to their interdependence in industry contexts.
THE CONCEPT.
The bouldering gym is already recognised as an unofficial hub for the technology and engineering
professions, due
to the overlap of skills required in programming/engineering and bouldering, such as problem-solving,
dexterity
and adaptability. ./Dev_Climb capitalises on this crossover, holding a professional networking event in
this
space, centered around the activity of bouldering. This deviation from the archetype of formal
networking
through setting and structure creates an ‘applied’ environment, conducive to more organic conversation
and
connection, and promising to be both fun and professionally enriching.
Furthermore, ./Dev_Climb’s holistic approach leans in to accommodate those who are less likely to attend
professional networking events due to social pressures. The essence of ./Dev_Climb allows individuals
choice and
flexibility, to manage the balance of networking and climbing as they please. Individuals aren’t
restricted to
industry-related talk, but also collaborative chatter as they problem solve climbs… or 100% climbing
with
indirect exposure to professional networking. Hence, ./Dev_Climb allows the opportunity for growth and
development in areas of problem solving and physical fitness, as well as self-confidence in networking
and
social contexts.
